Drinking water processing

The water requirement of the industrial countries is 150 000 l water per inhabitant per year. Although only 3-4% of this water is used for drinking, cooking and hygiene, the whole amount of water generated has to have the quality of drinking water. For the generation of drinking water, both surface water and and ground water are used. If it is necessary to clean water before it is fed into the network of drinking water, most of the time precipitants and flocculants are used. Both inorganic precipitants (ferric and aluminium salts) and organic polymers have to be of high quality, because the water is for human contact and consumption.
