Enhancement of Filler Retention
A new developed polymer enhances Filler retention without negative impact on dewatering properties. Strength properties are hardly influenced. This system allows improvements to the level of Filler in the sheet using the natural ash derived from waste paper. The polymers are easily dosed by the means of a metering pump and post dilution whereas the dose point is thick stock or even the pulper. The system is especially designed for papers where the filler level can be increased and the base is wastepaper. On a first machine trial at a newsprint mill following results where achieved by a dose rate of 500 to 750 g/t of active material. - Ash retention increased from 35 up to 50%
- Filler level in paper increased from 9,9 to 13,1%
- No impact on OBA and dyes
- Mechanical properties remained on similar level
- Cationic polymer within the retention system was reduced
- from 300 to 240 g/t
- Brightness increased and enabled a reduction of Dithionite
